Manhattan Center

Social Action Group

Social work is a social commitment.

Adelphi Manhattan Center's Social Action GroupStudent involvement is an important component to obtaining a social work education. It provides students with the opportunity to engage in causes they feel passionate about in addition to building relationships with fellow students that go beyond their time here at Adelphi.  The School of Social Work Social Action group at the Manhattan Center is a student led group where students work together to address social justice issues in and around the New York City area. In this group students learn the skills of leadership, and teamwork as well as exhibit great commitment to their causes.

This year the students in the Social Action Group have been involved in many social justices issues. The activities listed below are just some of activities in which they have organized or participated:

  • Provided testimony at a City Hall Council Hearing conducted by the Committee on Public Housing on behalf of clients and community members in New York City Housing Authority apartments
  • Conducted a Children’s Book Drive
  • Conducted a literacy activity at a Salvation Army Family Shelter in Brooklyn
  • Conducted voter registration drives both at the Manhattan Center as well as the Salvation Army Family Shelter.

Our hope is that anyone who reads this will become energized about becoming engaged in student activities.
